Formerly the Ballarat Junior Technical School occupied a few pages at the back of the Ballarat School of Mines Students' Magazine. In this year the Ballarat Junior Technical School's 'brother' school, Ballarat North Technical School, was publishing its own magazine called 'Green Acres'. The Ballarat Junior Technical School was established in 1913 as a division of the Ballarat School of Mines. It is a predecesor institution of Federation University Australia.Black cloth covered foolscap book with red leather spine and corners. The man sitting extreme left in the front row is Fred Nicholson's father George Nicholson, Charlie Slowly is oh his right (Charlie later worked at Faram Bros Hardware). The leftmost man in cricket whites in the second row is Fred's uncle, Arthur Nicholson. Another uncle, William 'Bill' Condon is to his right. The man fourth from the left in the back row is Tommy Breen. Fire schools were an important pre-summer program for all Forests Commission staff and crews They were designed as refresher courses for existing staff and training of new staff on how to use pumps and hoses FCV Forest Divisions were made up of separate forest inter-district and competitions were held.
